About Us
FROM HUmble Beginings
In the late 1960s, families from Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei began immigrating to Canada, primarily settling in Vancouver and Toronto. As they connected through social gatherings, the idea of forming an association emerged. In 1971, Guilbert Ho organized a lunch meeting that attracted over 130 attendees, leading to discussions about creating a cultural association. Despite initial resistance to the name "Malaysia and Singapore," the association was eventually formed by a pro-tem committee and incorporated as the Malaysian and Singapore Cultural Association (MSA) in 1976.
The association quickly grew, hosting its first Chinese New Year Dinner & Dance in 1977, which became an annual fundraising event. With increasing Bruneian immigration, the association welcomed Bruneians as full members, changing its name to the Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei Cultural Association (MSBCA). Over the years, MSBCA organized various cultural and social events, adapted to community needs, and celebrated significant milestones, including its 10th and 20th anniversaries.
Under various presidents, the association has continued to thrive, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on community engagement and cultural preservation. Today, MSBCA remains a vital organization for former residents of these countries in Vancouver, celebrating shared heritage and fostering community ties.

Since 1976, our organization has grown from 150 members to 500, showing our dedication to an inclusive community.
In 2003, we acquired a clubhouse, now the hub for our major get together events and celebrations.
Our annual summer bbq's and monthly social potluck nights have strengthened our community's bonds.
Let's not forget our weekly ballroom and Zumba dance classes.
